Maine Forest Conservation
Hundreds of groups, as well as private landowners, in Maine work to protect and enhance our Maine Woods. This includes safeguarding the capacity of these Maine forests and woodlands to store 1.46 billion metric tons* of carbon dioxide yearly, cooling the earth and cleansing our air. Land trusts, environmental organizations large and small, and private citizens labor to conserve our wooded landscapes — providing us a chance to find solitude and renewal of the spirit in a noisy world. These groups invite the public to experience the delights offered freely by our forests and woodlands.
